Fellowship Program in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery

Advanced Specialty Program in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery, endorsed by the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (Mexican applicants) and Universidad México Americana del Norte (international applicants).

Call for Applications with an upcoming start date scheduled for March 1, 2026 (Mexican applicants) and September 1, 2026 (international applicants).

For Mexican applicants, the deadline for document submission is January 16, 2026. Please take this deadline into account during the application and evaluation process.

Requirements for Mexican Applicants

  1. MD degree (Physician and Surgeon) and medical specialty degree and license*; academic transcript (Kárdex) or certificate including GPA ≥ 80/100 (both general medicine and specialty, completed or in progress).
  • Curriculum Vitae (Tec format).

  • CURP.

  • English Proficiency Test taken within the last 2 years. If not current, we recommend the Duolingo English Test (https://englishtest.duolingo.com/test_takersresults available within 48 hours):

    • TOEFL ITP: ≥ 550
    • TOEFL iBT: ≥ 80
    • Duolingo English Test: ≥ 100
  • Three letters of recommendation (Tec format or free format).

  • Application form (Tec format).

  • Official identification (INE or passport).

  • ENARM Selection Certificate.

  • Birth certificate.

  • If you are currently in the final year of your specialty and do not yet hold the degree, you may submit an official enrollment certificate indicating your expected completion date and current cumulative GPA.

Requirements for International Applicants

  • Specialty in General Surgery (documented with a digital copy of the specialist degree).
  • Nationality from any Latin American country or Spain.
  • Age under 40 years.
  • Three letters of recommendation from surgeons who are members of the Bariatric Surgery Society of your country.
  • Availability for one full year of full-time, exclusive dedication.
  • Letter of commitment to become a member of the General Surgery Society of your country.
  • Letter of commitment to become a member of the Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Society of your country.
  • Statement of purpose describing motivations and personal objectives for undertaking the Fellowship.
  • Updated Curriculum Vitae with photograph, in IFSO LAC format (attached).
  • No final criminal or ethical convictions in ordinary or professional courts.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Diploma in Research (desirable).
  • Languages: Spanish/Portuguese and intermediate English.
  • No financial remuneration.
